Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage at Burnt Tree Primary School.

At Burnt Tree, we believe that what a child learns during their first years; they carry with them throughout their lives. A child’s early years’ education is the foundation for their future success, and so we are committed to providing a strong base for lifelong learning. We give our pupils the best possible start to their school life in a safe and nurturing environment, where play and learning is combined.

To ensure our children receive the best possible learning experiences, we follow the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which sets out and explains how and what children should learn to support their healthy development. Alongside this, we also use the Development Matters framework which sets out the pathways of children’s development in broad ages and stages with a greater emphasis on the depth of learning.

In July 2021, the framework was revised with a strong focus on communication and language. Language is the foundation to children’s thinking and learning, and so we prioritise creating a ‘language rich’ environment that develops the children’s language skills. Meaningful interactions from our highly experienced practitioners, enrich our children’s learning through modelling, discussion, appropriate challenge and shared expectations.

We provide an engaging, broad and balanced curriculum, that maximises opportunities for meaningful cross-curricular links and learning experiences. We introduce children to a new topic each half-term, which reflects the current world around us and covers a range of different themes each week.

Below you will find links to our curriculum overview, and half-termly topic plans, along with other useful links to information about how our children learn at school.
