Our learning

Maths
In our Maths lessons, we will be learning about fractions, mass and capacity, money, time and shape. We will also continue to practise our times tables.

Please encourage your child to practise their times tables by logging in to their TTRockstars account through ‘Wonde’.

English
This term in English, we will be reading The Enchanted Wood and The Iron Giant and our written work will be based on these texts.

Alongside our class novels, we will continue to develop our comprehension skills using Stig of the Dump. We will also practise our handwriting and improve our grammar.

Science
Our Science work this term will focus on two topics: Plants and Light. When learning about plants, we will identify the conditions required for them to grow well. When studying light, we will learn about sources of light, how shadows are formed, and how the amount of light in a space can change.

To support this learning, we will carry out a range of investigations, making predictions and interpreting results using our scientific knowledge.

History
In our History lessons this term, we will explore the question, ‘Why did the Romans invade and settle in Britain?’ We will focus on making inferences and deductions from primary and secondary sources to understand the impact of the Roman Empire on Britain.

Geography
In our Geography lessons this term, we will explore the question, ‘Are all settlements the same?’ We will learn about the differences between villages, towns and cities in the UK, using OS maps to identify key human and physical features.

We will then study the city of New Delhi, identifying its features and comparing land use there with our local area.

PE
In PE, we will be focusing on rounders. We will develop our throwing and catching skills to support performance in game situations. In addition, we will build our teamwork skills, learning how to work together effectively during matches.

Look what we have been doing...

In art, we began by looking at various pieces from prehistoric times. Then, we discussed which animals we would want people in the future to see and created line drawings of them.

Using our line drawings from the previous lesson, we scaled up our favourite sketch onto a larger piece of paper and experimented with charcoal to create shading on the animal.

We then created cave walls using natural materials. Finally, we sketched our drawings onto the cave walls before painting them using prehistoric colours.
