Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Early Years Focus

We are looking to appoint a committed and experienced practitioner as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our hardworking and friendly team at Burnt Tree Primary School. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact on the learning and development of our youngest pupils.


This position is open to both internal and external applicants.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality lessons to whole classes, primarily within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), to cover teacher absence or provide release time
  • Support the planning and delivery of a rich and engaging early years curriculum
  • Lead small group learning and targeted interventions to support pupil progress
  • Deliver and support the teaching of phonics, using the Read Write Inc (RWI) programme
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and other staff to support learning and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Ensure the school meets statutory early years adult-to-child ratios at all times
  • Promote the welfare, safety, and wellbeing of all children, including the provision of basic first aid when required

Essential Requirements:

  • A recognised and approved Early Years qualification (suitable to meet EYFS adult-to-child staffing ratios)
  • A Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) qualification or Foundation Degree in a relevant field
  • Recent and relevant experience working in an Early Years setting
  • Recent experience of teaching phonics, ideally using the RWI approach
  • Experience of leading whole-class teaching in the absence of the teacher
  • A valid Paediatric First Aid qualification
