Child Protection and Safeguarding

Your child’s safety is our main concern. For this reason, we follow the Sandwell policy for Safeguarding. This means that we will contact Social Services if we have any concerns. The Designated Safeguarding Lead for Child Protection is Mrs J Gamwell, Family Support Worker. If you have any concerns about the safety of your own child or others please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Gamwell or Fr Martin (Safeguarding Governor), through the school office.

Operation Encompass

Our school is part of Operation Encompass. This is a police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Abuse. Operation Encompass means that the police will share information about Domestic Abuse incidents with our school PRIOR to the start of the next school day when they have been called to a domestic incident. Once a Key Adult i.e.: DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) has attended an Operation Encompass briefing they will cascade the principles of Operation Encompass to all DDSL’s (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead). Our parents are fully aware that we are an Operation Encompass school. The Operation Encompass information is stored in line with all other confidential safeguarding and child protection information. The Key Adult has also led training for all school staff and Governors about Operation Encompass, the prevalence of Domestic Abuse and the impact of this abuse on children. We have also discussed how we can support our children following the Operation Encompass notification. We are aware that we must do nothing that puts the child/ren or the non-abusing adult at risk. The Safeguarding Governor will report on Operation Encompass in the termly report to Governors. All information is anonymised for these reports. The Key Adult has used the Operation Encompass Toolkit to ensure that all appropriate actions have been taken by the school.

Key Adults in our school are:

DSL (Designated Safeguarding Leads):-

  • Mrs Joanne Gamwell (Family Support Worker)

DDSL (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads):-

  • Mrs Jayne Bayliss (Head Teacher)
  • Mr Matthew Brazier (Deputy Head Teacher)
  • Miss Charlotte Wakeman (Assistant Head Teacher)
  • Mrs Claire Brown (Business Manager)

 Safeguarding Governor:-

  • Fr Martin Ennis

FURTHER INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THIS WEBSITE ON THE SAFEGUARDING PAGE FOUND VIA THE ABOUT TAB ON THE HOMEPAGE OR ON THE OPERATION ENCOMPASS WEBSITE www.operationencompass.org

Attendance

Attendance is very important; children need to be at school every day. We work closely with the Local Authority Attendance and Prosecution Service to support families whose attendance falls below the expected level of 97%. If children need to leave during the school day because of a medical appointment or illness they must be signed out at the School Office. We have a separate Attendance policy which you may have a copy of; it can be requested through the school office or on our website on the policies page found via the Parents tab on the homepage. Legislation introduced in September 2013 states holiday in term time can no longer be authorised. The Governors have agreed that they may authorise up to 5 days leave of absence in exceptional circumstances.
